Our recycled Italian technical fabrics withstand both swimming pool chlorine and sea water. A quick rinse with fresh water after every swim is all it takes to keep the fabric in pristine condition season after season. UV protection lasts for 80 washes — the swimsuit can be passed down from one child to the next.
UPF 50+ and UPF 80: two levels of protection
Our range of children’s swimwear is available in UPF 50+ (over 97% of UV rays blocked) and UPF 80 (SHIRO fabrics certified to UV Standard 801, blocking up to 99% of UV rays). This dual range allows you to choose according to exposure: UPF 50+ for standard swimming, UPF 80 for holidays in intense sunshine, on a boat, or for very fair skin. All our garments are tested when wet, when stretched, and after 80 washes.
A photochromic zip changes colour as UV levels rise
Swimwear featuring a zip (depending on the model) incorporates a photochromic zip: a photochromic slider that changes from pale pink to dark purple as UV intensity increases. Boys’ boxer shorts are ideal for the beach, the pool and surfing — they fit snugly, stay in place and keep sand out. Girls’ one-piece swimsuits cover the chest, back and shoulders, areas that are particularly exposed when a child is playing standing up in the water. Both offer the same UPF rating depending on the model chosen.
What is the difference between UPF 50+ and UPF 80?
UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) measures the proportion of UV rays blocked by the fabric. UPF 50+ means that less than 2% of UV rays pass through the fabric (over 97% blocked). UPF 80, certified to the German UV Standard 801, offers even higher protection, tested under the most demanding conditions — wet fabric, stretched fabric, and after 80 washes. For very fair skin or areas with intense sunlight, UPF 80 is recommended.
Is the UV-protective swimsuit resistant to chlorine and sea water?
Yes. Our swimsuits are designed for both the pool and the sea. The recycled Italian technical fabric is resistant to both chlorine and salt, dries in a matter of minutes and retains its elasticity season after season. Rinsing with fresh water after each swim further extends the swimsuit’s lifespan.
Is it allowed in public swimming pools?
Yes. Our children’s swimwear is accepted at the vast majority of French municipal swimming pools: the fabric is technical (polyester/spandex), fitted, and meets current hygiene requirements. If in doubt, check with your local swimming pool — some have specific rules regarding long-sleeved styles.
How do you care for a UV-protective swimsuit?
Rinse with fresh water after every swim (sea or pool), hand wash or machine wash at 30°C, do not tumble dry, do not bleach, do not iron directly. Never leave the swimsuit wet in a sealed plastic bag. UV protection is maintained for 80 washes — the swimsuit can be passed from one child to the next without any loss of performance.
How to choose the right size?
Measure your child (chest circumference, height, hip circumference) and consult the UVEA size guide on each product page — it is given in ages and centimetres. The swimsuit should fit snugly (without being too loose) to stay in place whilst swimming. If you’re unsure between two sizes, choose the smaller one: the fabric is stretchy and will adapt.
